June 2011 Exhibition Opening

The galleries of the Boca Raton Museum of Art were bursting during the opening reception of the Museum’s Summer Exhibition, 60th Annual All Florida Juried Competition and Exhibition. If the turnout for the opening is any indication, independent art continues to flourish in Florida. In a special presentation, winners of the All Florida were announced to a crowd of participating artists, guests, Museum Members and Patrons. Best in Show went to Bonnie Wolsky of Coral Gables for Tangled Palms and Merit Awards were given to three artists – Russell Levine of Boynton Beach for Eyes of My Soul, Noelle Mason of Tampa for Ground Control (Mexicali/Calexico) and Virginia Fifield of Hollywood for Contemplations of Life, Death and Beauty. The audience was also introduced to Steven Maklansky, who spoke enthusiastically of his vision to engage, participate and connect with the cultural community as the Museum’s new Director. The Exhibition reinforces the Museum’s commitment to Florida artists, provides professional exhibition opportunities for emerging artists, and reveals a provocative glimpse – through Florida artists’ eyes – of the state-of-the-art today through 101 paintings, sculpture, photography and installations. This year over 1,800 artworks by 600 artists were submitted for consideration. The All Florida is the state’s oldest statewide annual juried competition. It showcases both prominent and emerging Florida artists, granting visitors insight into today’s Florida art scene.
