John Boone: Pairs, Hands & Ohs

Hand-painted letters in a digital font, calling to mind the austerity and rigidity of a vintage computer terminal, are juxtaposed by playful meditations on language by textual pop artist John Boone. Idiomatic words and phrases play off each other, often in unexpected ways, through paired paintings and mixed media works.

As the raw subject matter for his paintings, Boone collects words, turns of phrase and colloquialisms, which often coalesce around themes. His ear, a sense of trenchancy and an idea about what is pertinent guide him in the selection of language. His eye, a sense for color and order, and the presentation structure he has developed determine the outcome on the canvas.

John Boone: Pairs is organized by Kathy Goncharov, Senior Curator, Boca Raton Museum of Art, and made possible by the Museum’s Leadership Fund with major support generously provided by the Estate of Ardele L. Garrod, Jennifer & Marc Bell, Jody H. & Martin Grass, Dalia & Duane Stiller, Angela & John DesPrez III, Patricia Savides, the Museum’s Friends Auxiliary, and those who wish to remain anonymous.

Exterior Renovations

The Museum and the Art School now have a visual prominence they have not fully enjoyed for many decades.

Our new and dynamic outdoor environment is designed by architect Margi Glavovic and landscape architect Roberto Rovira to ensure that the Museum’s exterior landscaping, architecture, and art are integrated without barriers or boundaries.  Funding for this defining project is generously made possible by the Bequest of Ruth & Kenneth Feigl, Jody H. & Martin Grass, Angela & John DesPrez III, and Dalia & Duane Stiller.

While this renovation is taking place at the Museum, we are also focusing our attention at the Art School. Thanks to generous gifts from the Estate of Ardele L. Garrod, the Michael & Patricia Levine Philanthropic Fund, the Isadore & Kelly Friedman Foundation, and those who wish to remain anonymous, we have re-landscaped the grounds and made critical repairs to the exterior of the building.
