Friends Auxiliary: Lecture & Luncheon Series - PART 2
Carol Damian – Fernando Botero Meets Art History

Boca Raton Marriott at Boca Center
5150 Town Center Cir
Boca Raton, FL 33486

Art History is one of the most significant approaches to creativity for Master Botero. Throughout his career, he references his earliest influences that come from Italy’s frescoes of the Quatrocento.  Studying one historical category after another, he constantly uses imagery, styles, and narratives from the past for the present, appropriating them into his own unique works.

Former director of the Frost Art Museum and chairperson of FIU's Department of Art and Art History, Dr. Carol Damian is a fixture in Miami's arts scene, and a nationally recognized art historian specializing in Latin American and Caribbean art. She is a graduate of Wheaton College in Norton, MA, and received her M.A. in Pre-Columbian Art and her Ph.D. in Latin American History from the University of Miami.
