Dr. Claribel and Miss Etta, the Cone Sisters of Baltimore, spent their lives in happy spinsterhood, traveling the world together. Amongst their friends where some of the most important artists and thought leaders of the early 20th century, including  Gertrude Stein, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and others. Together, the Cone Sisters built one of the world’s preeminent collections of Modern art. Marlene Strauss lectures annually at The Metropolitan Museum and 92Y in New York, the 21st Century Club in Cleveland, and The Society of the Four Arts in Palm Beach. She has spoken at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Art Institute of Chicago, French Embassy in New York; and many museums throughout the US.
