June 2010 Exhibition Openings
The galleries were bustling with activity and anticipation during the opening reception of the Museum's Summer Exhibitions: 59th Annual All Florida Juried Competition and Boca Museum Artists' Guild Biennial Exhibition on Tuesday June 22, 2010. Winners were announced for each Exhibition. 59th Annual All Florida - Best In Show went to Kerry Phillips for "Chairs Found and Fixed", Merit Awards went to three artists, Roberta Schofield for her body of work, Noelle Mason for "Nothing Much Happened Today: for Eric and Dylan" and Melissa Marrero for her body of work. Boca Museum Artists' Guild Biennial Exhibition - 1st Place went to Francene Levinson for "Rising", 2nd Place to Lorraine Bader for "Empress Cixi", 3rd Place to Jerome Glickman for "Rebirth of Creative Self", Juror's Recognition to Hanne Niederhausen for "Gutenberg's Notebook" and Honorable Mention to Sally Cooper for "La Mer (Triptych)".
 
2010 Members Annual Meeting
The Museum held the Annual Meeting for Members on April 12, 2010. Awards were presented to select members in appreciation for their outstanding comitment and extraordinary efforts which assisted in furthering the goals of the Boca Raton Museum of Art.
 
24th Annual Outdoor Juried Art Festival
With the help of volunteers, this year's successful Art Festival included works from nearly 250 new and established artists from around the country and as far away as Israel. Ten artists were given special recognition and monetary awards, with one Best in Show.
 
2010 Annual Gala - An evening with Elvis
The 2010 Annual Gala held at the Boca Raton Resort & Club centered around a musical tribute to Elvis Presley performed by artist Chris McDonald. The evening's festivities also included the presentation of the Museum's Jean Spence Award to Bill Wolgin in acknowledgment of two decades of dedicated service and commitment. Under the chairmanship of Gail and Adam Bankier, the event raised crucial funding for the Museum. Honorary Chairs, Dani and Jack Sonnenblick were recognized and thanked for their generous support spanning more than twenty years.
 
November 2009 Exhibition Openings
The Boca Raton Museum of Art debuted two stunning and thoughtfully curated exhibitions to Museum Patrons and Members at opening receptions held Nov. 16 and Nov. 17, 2009 at the Museum. These events celebrated the fall exhibitions; An Unfinished Conversation: Collecting Enrique Martínez Celaya, which continues through January 10, 2010 and African, Oceanic and Meso-American Treasures from the Permanent Collection, which continues through June 13, 2010. The Museum was honored with the presence of artist Enrique Martínez Celaya and one of his best known collectors, filmmaker Martin Brest (Scent of a Woman, Meet Joe Black) at both opening events. The Museum also welcomed scholar Daniel A. Siedell, who contributed an intriguing essay to the exhibition’s catalogue. The three mingled with Museum guests and answered questions about the work and what it means to be a collector and appreciator of an artist.
 
Museum Annual Auction 2009
The Boca Raton Museum of Art welcomed art supporters from throughout the community to its 20th Annual Auction on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at the Museum in Mizner Park. The annual event, which helps to fund the Museum's continued community outreach and educational programming, benefiting the cultural life residents and visitors to South Florida. Highlighted this year was a unique theme, "Bid on Brollies." For this special project, the Museum invited several select artists to create one-of-a-kind umbrellas (brollies) that were placed on silent auction. Featured artists included Yoko Ono, Donald Lipski, William Crutchfield, Richard Frank, Jim Houser, Andrew Stevovich, Morris Weiss and Oleda Baker. Other featured items included: jewelry from Tiffany & Co.; tickets from Southwest Airlines and AirTran Airways; a $500 gift certificate from Saks Fifth Avenue, and a hand-blown Dale Chihuly glass sculpture. Select items, including jewelry and unique travel packages, were auctioned off in a live auction by Joseph Borrow, Treasurer, Board of Trustees. George Bolge, Museum Executive Director, and Paul W. Carman, President, Board of Trustees, welcomed guests and honored chairperson Sung Knowles, who in turn recognized the hard work of Auction committee members, volunteers, and this year's honorary chairs, Edith and Martin Stein.
 
September 2009 - Opening
The fall season at Boca Raton Museum of Art kicked off September 8, 2009, when the Museum held its Patron and Member opening for the fall exhibitions; Gary T. Erbe: Forty-Year Retrospective, Clyde Butcher: Wilderness Visions, Stephen Althouse: Tools and Shrouds and Late Twentieth-Century Abstraction: Works from the Permanent Collection. The exhibitions continue through November 8, 2009, with the exception of Late Twentieth-Century, which continues through May 2, 2010. The Museum was honored with the presence of artists Gary T. Erbe and Stephen Althouse, who mingled with guests and answered questions about their work. As an added treat, the two artists returned to the Museum the following morning to speak with Museum Docents and provide insight about their creative methods, techniques and intentions. These presentations will help to enhance the Museum experience for Members and Guests who choose to take advantage of the Museum’s free Docent tours.
 
May BAM Bash 2009
BAM, the young professional Auxiliary of the Boca Raton Museum of Art, held its Eighth Annual May BAM Bash on May 15 in the Museum’s Sculpture Garden. A band of revelers was treated to a 1980s-themed night with fine Mexican cuisine provided by Uncle Julio’s, libations by Potions in Motion and kicking 80s tunes by Ideal Entertainment. Guests also received Oscar-style, red carpet treatment upon arrival courtesy of Lynn University School of Communications. Sponsorship provided by David Rosenberg Diamonds & Co. Summer Opening 2009 - All Florida
The galleries and halls of the Boca Raton Museum of Art were bustling with activity and anticipation during the opening reception of the Museum’s Summer Exhibitions: 58th All Florida Juried Competition and Exhibition and Expanding Boundaries: Lyrical Abstraction on Tuesday June 9, 2009. The exhibitions will be on display through August 30, 2009. In a special presentation, winners of the 58th All Florida were announced to a crowd of participating artists, guests and Museum Members and Patrons. Show juror Roy Slade reviewed 1,260 pieces submitted from around the state and chose 60 pieces by 49 artists for the eclectic and electrifying show. Of the 60 works, one was awarded Best In Show and three were given Judge’s Merit Awards. Best In Show was given to Nadine Saitlin of Boca Raton for Small Red Landscape. Merit Awards were given to Elena De La Ville of Sarasota for We are Burning; Karen Kuykendall of Tampa for On the Road Again…Lookin’ for Black Bears…Songs along the Highway #3 and to Valeria Yamamoto of Bay Harbor Islands for Tripod.

Volunteer appreciation at Uncle Julio's
Museum Patrons, Volunteers and staff were treated to a wonderful evening of food and festivities at the newly opened Uncle Julio's restaurant in Mizner Park on March 28. Guests enjoyed complimentary fine Mexican cuisine - and Uncle Julio's signature margarita swirls - just days before the restaurant opened to the public. The Museum thanks Uncle Julio's for its generosity and for hosting such a successful event!
